VISUAL NARRATIVES: UNDERSTANDING HOW GRAPHIC DESIGN SHAPES ENGAGEMENT IN FILM

What role does graphic design play in film, and how can design be used to create a visual narrative?

Project Abstract

For this project, I created visual elements for a film adaptation of Raymond Carver’s short story Fat. The story centers on a waitress and a man in a larger body, but beneath the surface, it delves into how an ordinary encounter can shift one’s perspective upon reflection. My goal was to capture these themes through communication design. In order to focus on the crucial design materials needed for this project, I created a three layer model that consists of promotional materials, post production (on screen) graphics and graphic prop design.
