When music meets Design: Integration of design and music as a creative artistic interactive tool to help people alleviate negative emotions

How can integration of music with communication design be used to ameliorate anxiety and depression?

Project Abstract

Nowadays, with the gradual increase of anxiety and depression among people, it has been a thought for people to think about the ways through which they can effectively enhance and alleviate their bad moods. As we all know, music and visuals have an impact on elevating or evoking human emotions, and as a designer, how can we present the two together and trigger the best effect is what I am researching. The aim of this project is to explore the fusion of design and music and add interactive elements to make it a creative and interactive tool for the audience to alleviate negative emotions while using it.

Through research and experimentation, I designed the Creative Artistic Interactive Music Journal - “The Emotional Echoes”.

The project presents five different musical styles visually, allowing the audience to pick the “vibe” they are interested in and listen to the corresponding song by tap the built-in nfc tags with phone in each part. Each section has the same visual references and textual prompts as that section, and the user is free to create their own notes in the journal section provided in each section while listening, thus alleviating the negative emotions of the moment.
