Skin Deep: Breaking the Taboos of Tattoo Prejudice

Project Abstract

Chinese prejudice against tattoos is traditional and difficult to eliminate in a short period of time. Through this simple calendar box, people’s original stereotypes
of tattoo are contrasted with cute and funny images in the process, humourously conveying the meaning of tattoos to the audience and providing a good opportunity for acceptance and exposure to tattoos.

Reflection

During these three phases, I reflected on the fact that the research question for my project was a harder problem to solve, which involved traditional culture, attitudes and community. In this process, I ultimately chose a relaxed, humorous approach
to dissolve solid ideologies; it is not necessarily the most efficient way to resolve stereotypes about tattoos, but this support to have a subtle impact and it may be more acceptable when there is an issue about culture as it is a non-aggressive, non- didactic way to approach the issue.
