Caring beyond human: Fostering compassion through communication design in children's picture books on animal rights

How can communication design, particularly through children's picture books, be utilized to foster compassion and raise awareness about animal rights?

Project Abstract

This research project explores the potential of children's picture books to foster compassion towards animals. Through two poignant narratives, it delves into the themes of captivity and empathy. The first story follows a monkey's journey from freedom to captivity and eventual rescue, highlighting the injustice of animals performing in circuses. The second story recounts the heroic actions of a piglet named Lulu, emphasizing animals' capacity for empathy and the importance of respecting their rights. By engaging with these narratives, children are encouraged to empathize with animals and recognize their inherent worth. This project aims to empower children to advocate for animal rights and cultivate a more compassionate society.
