Project Abstract
The sensory map zine captures the diverse sounds and smells of Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, transforming them into sensory maps that replace traditional text-based guides. As visitors turn each page, they are taken on a journey along a specially designed route, where they can smell the aromas and listen to the sounds of the surroundings.
This innovative approach offers a fresh, immersive experience, inviting visitors to explore the gardens through multiple senses. The sensory maps for the Royal Botanic Gardens show how synesthesia can break design barriers, offering new ways to appreciate environments.
While this map is highly subjective, my aim is to inspire future visual communication designers to use synesthesia, discovering new perspectives and possibilities from everyday sensory experiences.
